The Pendulum Slip Resistance Test (BS7976)

If you require a Pendulum Slip Test, simply call or fill out the form below to arrange a consultation.

Pendulum Slip Tests can be carried out either on site  or samples can be sent to us for testing in our laboratory.

A Pendulum Test Report is issued following the testing showing Pendulum Test Values (PTV) obtained in Dry and Wet conditions.

Testing identifies whether slip issues are a direct result of the floor or the maintenance programme. Regular testing will provide a paper trail to illustrate due diligence.

Using The Results (PTV)

The criteria for assessing the results of slip resistance tests are based on the work of the Building Research Station in the 1960's, supported by the experience of investigators and bodies such as the former GLC over the last 40 years. This work suggested that for unencumbered, able bodied, working aged people, a PTV level of 36 or above represented an acceptably low risk of slipping when walking in a straight line on a level surface. The table below is based on those results and is used for readings obtained with Slider 96 (shod foot) and Slider 55 (barefoot).

Potential for Slip Pendulum Test Value (PTV)
High Slip Potential 0 - 24
Moderate Slip Potential 25 - 35
Low Slip Potential 36+
